PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten, July 23, 2015- St. Lucia edged
Grenada in straight sets (25-21, 25-22 and 25-23) as the ECVA
Junior Male championship entered match 2.
The match was more competitive as the score suggests as there
were numerous lead changes and mini runs by both teams. However
when it matter most the more experienced team – St. Lucia was
able to pull off the victory.
Coach Germaine Elvin of St Lucia gave his own assessment of the
game.
“It was all about how we approached the game in terms of errors.
We started slowly and Grenada was able to get some early leads
but we developed a rhythm and built upon that .We committed
ourselves to our style of play which included aggressive serves,
strong blocks and good passing”, he concluded.
Coach Josh Noel of Grenada was in great pain during the
post-match interview.
“We started out on a good note but when it came down to the end
our defense was poor and our on court communication was
virtually nonexistent and this is why St. Lucia was able to pull
it off”, he said.
St. Lucia held the edge in terms of points from spikes 27- 24 as
well as in blocks 7-5 but Grenada got more points from the
service category (9-8) than St. Lucia.
St. Lucia’s Opposite Hitter Andre Marquis led all scorers with
11 points all coming from Kills. His Middle Blocker Keion
Embrack contributed 9 points.
For the losing team- Grenada, Jayvon Gilbert (Outside Hitter)
had 10 points while Sherman Clement (Opposite) chipped in with
7.
