St. Lucia marches on in ECVA Junior Male tournament
St. Johns Antigua, August 30, 2019 - St. Lucia easily
defeated St. Kitts/Nevis in straight sets (25 -10, 25-9 and
25 -11) in their final match of pool play in the ECVA Male
U21 competition. This was St. Lucia’s third straight
victory.
The rookies of the tournament found it difficult to string
points together while St. Lucia rolled along. The “Lucia
Pressure” was indeed too much for S. Kitts/Nevis.
Coach of the St. Kitts/Nevis team- Shawn Seabrooks admitted
this when he interviewed. “We were certainly outclassed by a
better team on the day. This made achieving our objectives
even harder. However my guys are always convincing me that
they have the willingness to work hard and this augers well
for the future”, he said.
Coach Terry Verdant of St. Lucia appeared pleased and
pumped. It was an easy game but the challenge for us was not
to lose focus and drop to the level of the opponents. I
think that we achieved this by just looking at the score
line”, he stated.
Throughout the game the inexperience of the St. Kitts Nevis
team showed. They had no answer for 11 service aces 9 of
them from Outside Hitter Fabio Lamontagne. He added 3 more
points to that tally to become the leading scorer in the
game. Florent Joshua was the second highest leading scorer
with 8 points – all coming from Spikes.
Added to that, St. Lucia dominated the blocks 7 to 1 and
Spikes 15 to 4.
The St. Kitts/Nevis individual scoresheet did not have any
scores worthy of note as 6 players got at least a point and
the highest contribution was 3.
As the rankings unfold it would appear as if these two teams
will meet again in the crisscross semifinal on Saturday
evening.
