St. Lucia wins again in straight sets this time over Grenada
ST JOHNS, Antigua, August 17, 2018 –
St. Lucia recorded their second straight set victory (
25-16,25-23 and 26 24) when they came up against Grenada in the
opening encounter of Day 2 of the ECVA senior females
competition.
Lisa Casimie was on target for the
defending champs pouring in a game high 21 points while support
came from Kerin Neptune with 15.
Grenada meanwhile struggled to get
winners and depended on opponents’ errors for more than 50 % of
their points. In fact, Thornia Williams with 9 points was the
highest scorers for the Grenadians. She had 4 aces and 4 spikes
and a well-executed block playing in the Outside Hitter
position. The team scoresheet showed that St. Lucia dominated
all the categories. A wide margin in Spikes - 38 -18, in Blocks
it was 4 -3 and service points 11- 8.
Coach Chalery was on hand to give his
assessment of the game from a St. Lucia perspective.
“We were a little tired after playing
the last game last night and playing the first today but we
started well and took the first game relatively easily. We then
gave Grenada some momentum in the second and third sets. However
we were able to keep our cool and pull off the victory. I must
agree that our offense is working for us particularly the
Outside Hitters and the Middle Blockers but we still have some
work to do with respect to the opposite position. We have some
time to change a few things and get it right”, he accounted.
On the other hand, Coach Braithwaite
felt it was a case of greater desire. “St. Lucia played like
they wanted it more than us. We settled down a little in the
second and third sets but we definitely had a problem containing
the #4 player Lisa Casimie. Looking ahead if we meet them again
in tournament we will definitely have to devise a plan for her”,
he stated.
St. Lucia’s next game is against St.
Maarten while Grenada will tangle with Bermuda. |
