CASTAWAYS, Antigua, May 1, 2015. - St. Lucia, Antigua & Barbuda,
French St. Martin and Dominica begin the ECVA Women’s Beach
Volleyball Zonal Phase strong at beautiful Castaways Beach.
St. Lucia, top seeded of the event, and Antigua & Barbuda had a
pass in the first round of triple elimination and both enjoyed
winning their only series of the day in round two, defeating
British Virgin Islands and Grenada respectively.
French St. Martin beat Dutch St. Maarten in the first round and
then prevailed over St. Vincent in a Golden Set, while Dominica
beat Bermuda and St. Kitts & Nevis.
St. Lucia’s Dala Noel and Kerin Neptuno defeated British Virgin
Islands’ Tyalia Nibbs and Amadona Creese 2-0 (21-7, 21-7);
while Lisa Casimie and Jamilla Lansiquot defeated Lauren Welch/Tanisha
Georges 2-0 (21-11, 21-9), to conclude the series with a 2-0
score.
Antigua & Barbuda prevailed over Grenada 2-0 with Mali Peters
and Rosemarie Simon beating Shakira Collymore and Deanne John
2-0 (21-12, 21-17); and Sharon Payne with Naheeman Wilson
defeated Thornia Williams and Renisha Stafford 2-0 (23-21,
21-16).
Joining the winners’ circle are Valerie Damaseau/Audrey Gil and
Fleurimene Cassamajor/Bedelya Hunt French of French St. Martin.
The tandems first dispatched Dutch St. Martin 2-0, with Damaseau/Gil
defeating Huggins/Augustine 21-1, 21-7 while Cassamayor/Hunt
defeated Boston/Lathasha 17-21, 21-13, 15-9. A Golden Set earned
their second win of the day over St. Vincent for a final 2-1
score.
Dominica’s Catherine Celaire-Francis /Anna-Maria Xavier and
Zahidu Henry/Marcia Renault-Gustave won series against Bermuda
and St. Kitts & Nevis 2-0. Celeaire-Francis/Xavier defeated
Bermuda’s Dorush/Stevenson 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) and Howell/Demming
of St. Kitts & Nevis 2-0 (21-9, 21-11). Henry/Renault-Gustave
prevailed over LeBlanc/White of Bermuda 2-1 (20-22, 21-17,
15-10) and over St. Kitts & Nevis’ Allen/Dyer 2-1 (21-15, 15-21,
15-12).
Saturday’s schedule begins with series in the losers’ bracket,
with St. Kitts & Nevis facing Anguilla and Bermuda vs. British
Virgin Islands. Followed by series in the winners’ bracket, with
St. Lucia against Antigua & Barbuda and French St. Martin facing
Dominica.
