St. Lucia’s Phillip and Ericka Crowned Undefeated
ECVA U21 Women’s Champions
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts & Nevis, June 8, 2025.- St. Lucia’s Ericka
Gaspard and Clio Phillip delivered a flawless performance at the
ECVA U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, capturing the women’s gold
medal with an undefeated 5-0 record and without dropping a single
set.
In the final, Phillip and Ericka overpowered Antigua and Barbuda’s
Jassania Joseph and Jaya Carr in straight sets, 2-0 (21-11, 23-21),
sealing their championship run in dominant fashion on the sands of
Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The St. Lucian duo controlled the opening set with authority but had
to dig deep in the second after trailing 19-20. With calm under
pressure and sharp execution, Phillip and Ericka rallied to close
the match 23-21, completing their perfect tournament and claiming
the gold medal.
In an interview after the victory, Phillip said “We feel great, we
are excited, we are happy. This is what we came to do, win the
Gold!”
Speaking about the match, Ericka said “We really had to work hard in
the last set. Our confidence allowed us to push through the last
points”.
Dominica’s Alyssa Bully and Joyan Pascal secured an exciting bronze
medal victory in three sets over Anguilla’s Deandra Fleming and
Lavesha Richardson. Bully/Pascal came out strong to take the first
set 21-14, but Fleming/Richardson fought back in a tight second set,
edging it 22-20 to force a decider. In the third, Bully and Pascal
regained control with a dominant 15-7 finish to clinch the 2-1 win
and a spot on the podium.
The top three finishers of the event move on to represent the
Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) at the NORCECA World
Championships Qualifier Tournament.
St. Lucia’s Ericka/Phillip advanced to the championship match, with
consistent play, to earn a straight-set 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) victory
over Deandra Fleming and Lavesha Richardson of Anguilla.
In a hard-fought semifinal, Joseph and Carr edged Dominica’s Bully
and Pascal 2-1 (21-12, 15-21, 15-12). After splitting the first two
sets, Joseph and Carr led 13-9 in the decider before withstanding a
late Dominican rally to secure their spot in the final.
