St. Maarten hands Bermuda their second defeat

ST JOHNS, Antigua, August 17, 2018 – St. Maarten doused a spirited performance by a young Bermudan team when they defeated them in straight sets (25-23, 25-21 and 25-20) in match # 6 of the ECVA Senior Women Championship.

It was Bermuda’s second defeat by a similar margin but they showed a marked improvement from the first night. It was obvious that their movement and communication were at a higher level and it was certainly not a walk in the park for St. Maarten

Coach Dimitri Beauperthuy of St. Maarten was not about to underestimate the underdogs. “We treat every match like a championship match and took high energy going into the game. This gave us momentum and even the substitutes off the bench contributed to that consistency we needed”, he said.

Coach Juanita Blee was “all smiles” in the post-match interview. “I am very happy for the way the girls played today. This shows that they are learning and doing so quickly. The lessons learnt from the first game were applied in this match. The margin of defeat was not more than 5 in these games and I trust that this can give them more motivation in the other game,” she beamed.

St. Marten had an all-round performance from all their players as everyone recorded points with the highest (7) coming from Yadiska Van Putten.

On the other hand Bermuda was led by Opposite Hitter - Jade Weaver with 14 points made up of 9 spikes and 5 aces.
