PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten, July 23, 2015 - St. Vincent and the
Grenadines (SVG) managed to wrestle back the advantage from St.
Maarten edging them 3-2 ( 25-14, 25-22, 24-26,24- 26 and 15-9 )
as both teams battled late into the night of the first day of
the ECVA Junior Male Championship.
It was St. Vincent and the Grenadines who was coasting at 2-0
after the first two sets but St. Maarten roared back with
successive victories to draw level and forced the decider.
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines victory was due to the fact
that they were able to spread their offence among four players.
Ronaldo Franklyn pounded in 18 kills while recording a game high
20 points from the outside hitter position. Middle Blocker
Marcus Thomas picked up points from blocking and service aces to
end with 17 points while Asmond Frankly and Shevron Caine added
15 and 10, respectively.
Clearly the St. Maarten attack was spearheaded by the tag team
of Shiovanni Levenstone (19 points) and Juwon Hans ( 17
points). No other player got close to double figures. The team
also benefitted from St. Vincent and the Grenadines 50 errors
while only giving up 37 in a losing cause.
Team SVG held the advantage in all the scoring categories. The
led 57-35 in spikes, dominated the blocks with a score 9-6 and
outscored them 10 to 6 from the service line.
Coach Vance Andrews of SVG had this explanation after blowing
the advantage from a 2-0 lead. “The team had a break down based
on some errors they made and this was compounded by the lack of
communication on the court. As a result, they did not play as
well as they could have played. We had to remind ourselves that
we came here to win the tournament, refocused and pulled it off
in the decisive game,” he explained.
Raymond Jacob – coach of St. Maarten regretted the poor start
that his team gave. “We started slowly and the offence for SVG
was taking advantage of us. We responded by making some changes
and curtailed them for a while but we made some irreparable
errors at some crucial times and that allowed them back into the
game and they took it in fine style” he said.
St. Lucia’s final match in pool play is against Dominica while
Anguilla will try to win their first game when they meet Grenada
in the final match of Pool A.

Granadinas (SVG) luchó para recuperar la ventaja sobre de St.
Maarten 3-2 (25-14, 25-22, 24-26,24- 26 y 15-9) cuando ambos
equipos lucharon hasta altas horas de la noche de la primera
jornada del Campeonato Masculino ECVA Junior.
Fue San Vicente y las Granadinas que estaba navegando 2-0
después de los dos primeros sets, pero St. Maarten rugió de
nuevo con victorias sucesivas para empatar y obligó al set
decisivo.
La victoria de San Vicente y Granadinas se debió al hecho de que
fueron capaces de distribuir su ofensiva entre cuatro jugadores.
Ronaldo Franklyn tuvo 18 remates durante dentro de sus 20 puntos
desde la posición de atacante exterior. EL bloqueador central
Marcus Thomas recogió puntos de bloqueo y servicio de ases para
acabar con 17, mientras que Asmond Francamente y Shevron Caine
agregaron 15 y 10, respectivamente.
Es evidente que el ataque de San Martín fue encabezado por el
equipo de Shiovanni Levenstone (19 puntos) y Juwon Hans (17
puntos). Ningún otro jugador se acercó a los dos dígitos. El
equipo también se benefició de 50 errores de San Vicente y las
Granadinas 50, mientras que sólo cometía 37 en una causa
perdida.
El equipo SVG tuvo la ventaja en todas las categorías de
puntuación. Lideró 57-35 en remates, dominaron los bloqueos con
una puntuación de 9-6 y los superaron 10-6 desde la línea de
servicio.
El entrenador Vance Andrews de SVG tenía esta explicación
después de la ventaja de 2-0. "El equipo tuvo un desglose basado
en algunos errores que hicieron y esto se vio agravado por la
falta de comunicación en la cancha. Como resultado, no jugaron
tan bien como podrían haber jugado. Tuvimos que recordar que
hemos venido aquí para ganar el torneo, reenfocamos y lo
conseguimos en el set decisivo ", explicó.
Raymond Jacob - El entrenador de San Martín lamentó la mala
salida que su equipo dio. "Comenzamos lentamente y la ofensiva
por SVG se estaba aprovechando de nosotros. Respondimos al hacer
algunos cambios y les recortamos por un tiempo, pero hemos hecho
algunos errores irreparables en algunos momentos cruciales lo
que les permitió volver al juego y lo consiguieron con estilo",
dijo.
El último partido de Santa Lucía, en el juego de grupo está en
contra de Dominica mientras Anguila intentará ganar su primer
partido cuando se midan a Granada en el último partido de Grupo
