Strong start for Mexico, Canada and USA

 

TOLUCA, México, June 7, 2013 - The number one teams of Mexico, Canada and United States had a strong start winning their two matches of Friday in the first day of action at the NORCECA Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament in Toluca.

 

In Pool A, Heather Hughes/Summer Ross of USA 1 won 21-12, 21-14 over Vanessa Virgen/Stephanie Burnside, of Mexico 2 and came back in the afternoon to cruise 21-8, 21-9 against Nicaragua’s Elia Torrez and Swan Mendoza. The second place will be defined between Mexico 2 and Nicaragua on Saturday.

 

Kacie Mctavish/Caleigh Whitaker of Canada 1 prevailed 21-12, 21-13 against Christine Anthony/Samira Luis of Curacao in Pool B, and then won 21-4, 21-8 over Nancy Joseph/Pauline Woodrofe of Trinidad and Tobago. Honduras, with Gina Flores/Martha Euceda, beat Joseph/Woodrofe, but lost to Curacao.

 

In Pool C, Martha Revuelta and Bibiana Candelas (MEX 1) won 21-19, 21-14 to Emily Day-Whitney Pavlik of United States 2, and clinched first place in the group after beating Andrea Bukovec/Sophie Woolley of Canada 2 by 21-9 21-14.


In Pool D, Meza-Zaira Olivia Orellana of Mexico 3 won 21-10, 21-10 over Jessica Wolfenden/Cristin Alexander of Cayman Islands. In the afternoon, they got a victory 21-15, 21-15 against Diana Peguero-Nairobi Agramonte of Dominican Republic.
