Suriname brushes aside Bahamas in bronze warm-up

 

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, August 9, 2014 - Suriname warmed up for its bronze medal battle with Barbados after brushing aside Bahamas 25-9, 25-18, 25-13 in the final Women’s Division round-robin match of the 15th Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championship at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.

 

Leading the way for Suriname was Morena Leter with 13 points while Sandrina Hunsel chipped in with 11.

 

With the win, Suriname ended with a 2-2 record the for nine points, well adrift of winners Trinidad and Tobago which finished with a 4-0 record for 19 points followed by Jamaica with a 3-1 mark and 15 points, and Barbados, fourth with six and a 1-3 record.

 

Overall, the match was surprisingly a one-sided affair as the upbeat Suriname women outscored Barbados in all key components of the match, 33-20 on spikes, 5-2 on blocks and 4-1 on aces while only committing 17 errors to the Barbadians 33.

 

Following Sunday's third placed playoff between record six-time champions Barbados and Suriname, host and four-time defending champions Trinidad and Tobago will do battle with Jamaica in the gold medal match.
