Suriname gifted a lifeline!

PARAMARIBO, April 4, 2018 - Suriname was given a second chance at Trinidad and Tobago when the soca men had their four set result overturned for an illegal player.  Suriname with nothing to lose, arrested the final set from a visibly shaken Trinidad and Tobago. With this victory, Suriname will now play Martinique for the Bronze medal, while Trinidad and Tobago occupied the cellar position.

Suriname won the match 3-2 in sets (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-0 and 15-8) in a total of one hour and fifty two minutes.

Suriname had more winners, 105 to Trinidad and Tobago’s 81 with the Suriname having committed more errors, 67 to Trinidad and Tobago’s 39.

Tyrique Nicholas of Trinidad and Tobago was the game’s top scorer with 21 points (14 Spikes and 7 Aces)

Anferney Schmeltz was Suriname’s best scorer with 16 points (11 Spikes, 3 Block and 2 Aces)

COACH SURINAME – Seigo Valdez said “it was not the best game, they played unorganized. “

CAPTAIN SURINAME – Dylan Hiwat said “it was like a regular game. We did our best.”

COACH TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Sean Morrison said “Up to the fourth set it was our best game of the tournament, but the spirit of the team was broken to play a fifth set. They are young so it was extremely difficult”

CAPTAIN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Tyrique Nicholas said “our mind set was different. We did not expect to play Suriname today. We trained also to play against Martinique.”
