Suriname give good performance in front of home crowd

 

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, July 1, 2018 – Both Suriname and Defending Champion Trinidad and Tobago entered their final group match unbeaten in the in the 17th CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association) Women’s Championship here tonight at the Ismay van Wilgen Sport Hall, in Suriname.

 

It was a show that the spectator enjoyed and the first five-setter in the tournament which ended in Trinidad and Tobago favour (25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-11).

 

Suriname Sandrina Hunsel was in great form contributing 26 points and while Darlene Ramdin of TTO was the top scorer with 16 points.

 

Cheryl Burnnings, Suriname Captain “I am not disappointed with our defeat as I believe our team played well against a good team.  We had some excellent moments and we must now learn from the experience in preparation for the finals tomorrow night.”

 

Suriname Eric Aikman – “Our team played well; we had some brilliant moments and was able to block well. Trinidad and Tobago is a good team with lots of fire power and our performance tonight was positive. We will be making some adjustments for tomorrow finals against them.”

 

Renele Forde, TTO captain said “we were not consistent in the game. Our temperament was up and down and Suriname gave a great performance.  We must work our problems which occurred tonight in tomorrow’s training and cut down on our unforced errors in the finals tomorrow.”

 

Coach Cruz of TTO was not very happy and indicated that with 23 service errors and a total of 45 team errors contributed to our performance.  We gave Suriname too many points and this must be changed for tomorrow night finals.

 

The tournament final games will be played on Monday 2nd July with Bahamas coming up against Barbados at 17:00 for the Bronze medal and Defending Champion TTO will play Suriname for the Gold Medal at 19:00.  The medal ceremony will follow soon after.
