TTO Beach players welcome World Tour Experience

ST PETERSBURG, Florida - Trinidad and Tobago made its third ever appearance on the World Tour by participating in the St. Pete’s Grand Slam currently taking place in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States and remains the only English speaking Caribbean country to have ever done so.

The TTVF driven to ensure that its athletes develop, grasped at an opportunity given by the SPORTT, TTOC and NORCECA, for its athletes to get much needed high level matches in preparation for the upcoming Pan American Games and Olympic Qualifiers. The TTVF also thanks FLOW, KFC, TDC and the THA for their involvement in Beach Volleyball recently.

T&T was represented by Daneil Williams and Fabien Whitfield (The Toco Boy), they were knocked out of the Qualification Tournament by Austria’s Kunert and Dressler 21-18 21-14. The T&T female team was made of Ayanna Dyette and young Malika Davidson making her senior debut at the highest level, after performing creditable in last year’s Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China with Chelsea Ward. The ladies were knocked out by Germany’s Bieneck/Grosner 21-8 21-10.

The TTVF President Daymian Stewart who is currently on the world tour as the FIVB Technical Supervisor (In Training), was very pleased by the performance and progress of the athletes and our national beach volleyball system.

“Our athletes and Coach David Thomas have proven that they are capable and with the necessary support we can make it,” Stewart stated.

Stewart claims the administration of the TTVF has to improve and become self-sufficient to support the athletes. He calls on other agencies in sport to be realistic, understanding and supportive for genuine attempts of small NGB’s to make a difference.

Stewart said funding remains an issue and the TTVF remains committed to the athletes and their pursuit of excellence.

The TTVF governs two Olympic sports and are currently the Caribbean Champs and the highest ranked Caribbean Team in the world for Beach and Indoor, men and Women.
