TTO move ahead with second win
PARAMARIBO, Suriname, June 30, 2018 –
Defending champion has taken a 2-0 lead after defeating Barbados
3-0 in the 17th CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball
Association) Women’s Championship here at the at the
Ismay van Wilgen Sport Hall, in Suriname. Game 3 of the
tournament lasted 59 minutes with scores of 25-12, 25-14 and
25-15 ended in favour of the calypso spikers of Trinidad and
Tobago.
Team TTO coach made some changes in the line-up with captain
Forde starting as a middle blocker instead of her regular role
as setter and using the Kelly Ann billing as setter to give some
rest to Esdelle and Ross-Kydd. This strategy did not affect the
team momentum as they took 18 minutes to finish the first set at
25-12. Barbados team seem to have had a better game as there
were improvement in serving and blocking but the fire power of
TTO was too much for the young Bajan team to handle.
Barbados improved in the second and third sets as Shonte Seale
top score with 4 points but eventually lost 14-25 and 15-25
respectively.
“I felt that the team gave a spirited effort against the
defending champion.” “We improved in serving and blocking in
this match which is key as we prepare for the final group match
against Bahamas,” commented Barbados Coach Shon Hurdle.
Ashley Jordan, Captain of Team Barbados, endorsed here coaches
comment saying, “I believe we had a better performance in this
game but our focus is on winning the final group match”
Renele Forde, TTO captain said that the coach’s decision to rest
some players was good as it give the other players more
opportunity to understand their role and gain experience on the
court. “We are looking forward to play against Suriname in the
next match as they are a very competitive team.
Coach Cruz of TTO, said “I am more focus on using this
tournament as preparation for the upcoming tournaments in CAC
