Tapia and Howe set new Pan Am Cup records

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 10, 2021 – Dominican Republic’s Henry Tapia established a new scoring record for the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup won by Mexico on Thursday.

With his 20 points in the bronze medal match, Tapia totaled 131 for the competition, breaking the previous mark set by his compatriot Jose Miguel Cáceres with 127 in the 2012 edition.

Tapia also tied the record for more aces in a cup with 17, joining fellow Dominican Elvis Contreras (2012) atop of the list.

Canadian Jackson Howe set a new record with 27 blocks surpassing the 25 set by USA’s Merick McHenry two hours earlier. The previous old mark was 21 shared by Brazilian Gustavo Bonatto (2012) and Puerto Rican Mannix Roman (2014).

McHenry reached 25 by recording 8 blocks in the bronze medal victory of USA over Dominican Republic only to see Howe scoring four of his own to finish with 27.
