Team Peru presented during Press Conference
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 4, 2019 – The team to represent Peru at the
XVIII Women’s Pan American Cup to be held in the cities of
Trujillo and Chiclayo was introduced to the media during a press
conference held on Thursday attended by NORCECA president,
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz.
Pilar Gonzales Lopez de Raygada, president of the Peruvian
Volleyball Federation, greeted and welcomed the journalists and
introduced the coach of the home side.
Francisco Hervás, the Spaniard coach of the South American team,
expressed optimism about the chances of success of his new team.
In the history of the Pan Am Cup, Peru has occupied three third
places and one second place (2016).
The Peruvian team recently took part in the FIVB Challenger Cup
in Lima and was eliminated in the first round after losing two
close matches against Croatia
3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 31-29) and Czech Republic
3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21).
The local team has been training since March and Hervás is
confident on winning one of the three medals.
Karla Ortiz, captain of the team, also took a turn with the mike
during the press conference to express her confidence of
finishing with one of the medals.
The Pan American Cup start the qualification process toward the
Central American and Caribbean Games 2022 and is a warm up
competition before the Pan American Games of Lima that kick off
on July 28. |
