Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic enjoys volleyball!
BELGRADE, Serbia, May 30, 2020 – Serbian tennis superstar Novak
Djokovic, currently the world’s No. 1 ranked men’s singles
player, expressed his support and love for volleyball via his
official Facebook page.
During these challenging times, Djokovic has been training hard
to stay fit and healthy for the return of competitive tennis. He
also recently announced the organisation and delivery of a
series of exhibition matches across the Balkans from 13 June to
5 July, which will feature some of the best tennis players in
the region. Additionally, Djokovic has found time to reignite
his passion for volleyball and show support for a local team.
On Wednesday, Djokovic posted a picture on his Facebook page
with the players and staff of OK Vizura, a professional Serbian
women’s volleyball club. He also demonstrated his admiration for
the team and volleyball with a caption that stated: “It was a
pleasure to visit you during training, talk about sports and
life and play a little volleyball. I believe that Terza [Zoran
Terzić, the head coach of the national team of Serbia] would be
proud to see how skilfully I managed to play volleyball!”
In fact, this is not the first occasion where the 17-time Grand
Slam singles champion has expressed his love for volleyball. In
2011, Djokovic attended the final stage of the 2011 Women’s
European Volleyball Championship at Pionir Hall in Belgrade,
Serbia, where he cheered alongside a passionate home crowd as
Serbia claimed their first continental crown.
Recently, with the lack of competitive sport due to the global
coronavirus pandemic, Djokovic supported the establishment of a
relief fund for lower-ranked tennis players. Many of these
players depend on tournament earnings, and this is just one of
the many ways Djokovic has given back to the sports community. |
