The Road to Los Angeles 2028 Begins in Santo Domingo

with the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 17, 2026.- NORCECA’s road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will begin in Santo Domingo with the 2026 NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship, bringing together eight national teams from August 21-29 at the “Prof. Ricardo Gioriber Arias” Volleyball Palace.

 

The Dominican Republic will defend the continental crown on home soil, while Cuba, with 13 titles, enters as the most successful country in the history of the competition. The United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago complete the field.

 

In addition to the continental title, three berths to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship will be at stake.

 

The championship will also determine the teams that will continue on the road to Los Angeles 2028. The top four teams in the final standings, excluding the United States as host country of the Olympic Games, will advance to the NORCECA Continental Qualifier, to be held at the same venue on August 28-29, with one Olympic berth at stake.

 

The United States, Canada, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago make up Pool A, while host Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Costa Rica comprise Pool B.

 

The preliminary round will be played from August 21-23. The winners of each pool will advance directly to the semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third will compete in the quarterfinals.

 

The quarterfinals will be played on August 24, followed by the semifinals on August 25. The Continental Championship will conclude on August 26 with the classification and medal matches.

3:30 p.m. — Puerto Rico vs. Costa Rica

6:00 p.m. — United States vs. Mexico

8:30 p.m. — Dominican Republic vs. Cuba

 

August 23

1:00 p.m. — Cuba vs. Costa Rica

3:30 p.m. — Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago

6:00 p.m. — United States vs. Canada

8:30 p.m. — Dominican Republic vs. Puerto Rico
