The U21 World Championship dream ends for NORCECA teams

August 13, 2025.- The Women’s U21 World Championship dream came to an end for NORCECA teams. The United States and Puerto Rico, who had reached quarterfinals, fell to Bulgaria and Poland, respectively.

United States 0 – Bulgaria 3
The United States suffered a surprising 0-3 (23-25, 16-25, 15-25) defeat to Bulgaria. Henley Anderson led the Americans with 10 points, but Bulgaria’s pressure in serving (6-1) and attacking (37-28), after a very close first set, left the United States without answers for the rest of the match. The United States will now play for positions 9/16.

Puerto Rico 0 – Poland 3
Poland closed the Round of 16 with a convincing 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) victory over Puerto Rico. Chareika Carrión González was Puerto Rico’s top scorer with 10 points, but Poland’s blocking and defense prevented the Caribbean side from achieving sustained scoring runs. Poland outperformed Puerto Rico in attacks (40-27), blocks (11-1), and serves (4-0). Puerto Rico will now play for positions 9/16.

Canada 3 – Algeria 0
Canada defeated Algeria 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-18) and advanced in the fight for better positions in the World Championship. The Canadians dominated the match with 41 attacks to 15, 5-4 in blocks, and 13-2 in serves. Three Canadian players reached double digits in attacks: Logan King with 14, Élodie Lalonde with 13, and Claire Carter with 12. Canada will now play for positions 17/20.
