SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 26, 2015 – Mexicans
Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen were the most outstanding
beach volleyball team in NORCECA region for the 2015 season that
concluded last week in Tobago.
The Mexican tandem, winners of the men’s gold medal at the Pan
American Games tournament in Toronto, also claimed the titles in
North Bay, Canada and Tavares, Florida while finishing with a
bronze medal in Tobago.
Cubans Nivaldo Díaz and Sergio González, who finished in third
place at the Toronto Games, joined Ontiveros and Virgen as the
only doublé winners of the season after collecting gold medals
in Cayman Islands and Varadero, Cuba.
USA’s Mark Burik and Curt Toppel claimed two bronze medals in
Punta Cana and Varadero added to the silver medal they got in
North Bay.
Canadians Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman twice reached the podium
with a silver in Tobago and a bronze medal in North Bay, while
Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams of Trinidad & Tobago won
the bronze medals in Tavares, Florida and St Lucia.
Cuba’s Karell Piña and Daisel Quesada won the inaugural
tournament in Punta Cana while USA’s Trevor and Taylor Crabb and
Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena triumphed in St Lucia and
Tobago, respectively.
In the women’s division, USA’s Irene Hester and Caitlin Ledoux
were the only team with two gold medals during the seven-event
season.
The duo Hester/Ledoux triumphed In North Bay and St Lucia while
compatriot Kendra Vanzwieten won the gold in Punta Cana playing
with Traci Weamer and in Tavares alongside Kimberly
McGiven-Dicello. Weamer and Vanzwieten also claimed a bronze
medal in Cayman Islands.
USA’s Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes were crowned in Varadero and
added a third place in North Bay while Costa Ricans Karen Cope
and Natalia Alfaro finished second in St Lucia and third in
Varadero and Tavares.
Cuba’s Lidianny Echevarría collected silver medals in Punta Cana
and Varadero partnering Yanileidys Sanchez and Leila Martinez,
respectively.
USA’s Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik won the title in Cayman
Islands while Canada’s Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas took
home the crown in Tobago.
