The legacy of the Games of Mayaguez 2010 goes on

CABO ROJO, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2014 – The President of the Mayaguez 2010 Foundation, Jorge Sosa, remarked how important has become the use of the sport facilities of the Boqueron Recreational Center, which were built for the Central American and Caribbean Games of Mayaguez 2010.

The Games were played four years ago and the legacy of that adventure is still alive due to the efforts of the foundation and the events attracted by city such as the Norceca Beach Voleyball Tour.

“It is a great opportunity to keep these facilities active, and also is a great opportunity to support and to stimulate the practice and development of sports,” Sosa said during the announcement of the next stop that will be played in Boqueron.

“You can allow a cultural exchange to all the athletes of our zone when they see the best athletes competing”, he added.

Having the best on the region to Boqueron not only brings back wonderful memories of the Games celebrated in 2010. The Games were a blueprint for new generations and newcomers. The celebration of the tour will also give a positive impact to all the local economy in a period that is a dead-season for hotels and the gastronomic services.

“We will be stimulating the local economy, the hotel industry. We are activating it by bringing international visitors to this region,” the Foundation President added.

The organization is working hard in the program for the year 2016. That program focuses in using the rest of the facilities that were built for the Games of Mayaguez 2010. Some of those additional events are the School Pan American games and the Pony League Baseball World Championship.

The Games were an exceptional motivation for the new generations of athletes and the goal is to focus in promoting and forming more international players along with the promotion of events. Puerto Rican Beach Voleyball has brand new faces that have even reached the highest level like the Youth Olympic Teams that competed at Nanjing, coached by Angel “Cholo” Peña.

According to Peña, He has plenty of confidence that will win a gold medal at the Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour in Boqueron. He remarked all the efforts made by the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, as well as the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee and the Michael Johnson Performance Company that looks forward to develop High Performance Athletes focusing in the Central American, Pan American and Olympic Cycle of 2016.
