CHILE, August 8, 2026.- The United States earned its third victory of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship on Saturday, while Puerto Rico picked up its second win and Dominican Republic improved its record with its first victory of the tournament.

Mexico suffered its second loss.

Third Win for the United States

The United States defeated host Chile 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19), earning its third consecutive victory and remaining atop Pool A. All three U.S. victories have come in straight sets, keeping them ahead of Czechia, which has the same win-loss record.

The United States dominated the team statistics, holding advantages of 47-23 in attacks, 7-4 in blocks and 7-1 in aces.

Taylor Johnson of the United States was the match’s leading scorer with 14 points, while Lexi Coleman contributed 13 and Peyton Smith added 12.

Puerto Rico Earns Five-Set Victory

Puerto Rico earned a hard-fought 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 18-25, 15-12) victory over Chinese Taipei and moved up one spot in Pool D, taking third place tied with Italy.

Chinese Taipei led the team statistics in attacks 63-50 and aces 12-5, while Puerto Rico held a commanding 18-2 advantage in blocks, with Sophia Colon and Eliany Quinones recording six blocks each.

Carinialys Liann Kuilan led Puerto Rico with 21 points. Sophia Colon added 14, Sophia Aquino 13 and Eliany Quinones 11.

Dominican Republic Defeats Algeria

Dominican Republic defeated Algeria 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-17) to earn its first victory of the tournament. The Dominicans are in Pool D alongside Puerto Rico and sit in fifth place with a 1-2 record.

For Dominican Republic, Leandry Almonte scored 15 points, including one block and three aces. Ivette Pérez finished with 7 attacks and 5 aces, while captain Rayni Mondesi contributed 10 points.

The Dominicans controlled the team statistics, outscoring Algeria 35-17 in attacks, 8-3 in blocks and 9-2 in aces.

Mexico Suffers Second Loss

Mexico lost 2-3 (25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 10-15) to Peru and now has a 1-2 record in Pool B of the World Championship.

Mexico’s Gabriela Ayala stood out as the match’s leading scorer with 19 points, including two blocks.

Sunday, August 9, will be a rest day.
