SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 19,
2022 – Three NORCECA referees have been elevated
to “A” category of FIVB thus recognizing their
experience and capabilities officiating
international events throughout the years.
The promoted referees are Lourdes Perez and
Ricardo Borroto of Cuba and Drew Cameron of
Canada.
The announcement was made by Canada’s Guy
Bradbury, president of the Refereeing Commission
of NORCECA during the virtual meeting chaired by
NORCECA First Vice President Ariel Sainz. Also
Bradbury informed that five other referees were
promoted to “C” category.
During today’s meeting it was also announced
that Patti Rolf of the United States is retiring
after many years of officiating matches at the
highest level. Rolf will be honored in
recognition to her high merits during this
year's final volleyball tournament at NORCECA.
Bradbury reported on the rules of the games
changes that will be tested during the events
for the next two years but will not be official
until approved by the FIVB Congress of 2024.
Jorge Villalobos of Costa Rica made a
presentation about the proposal of
categorization of referees within NORCECA,
divided in five categories.
Jose Luis Jimenez of AFECAVOL presented a full
report of activities by their refereeing
commission including 23 virtual meetings within
their commission and other commissions like VIS
and competition director.
Cheryll Rojer presented a combined activity
report on behalf of CAZOVA and ECVA that
included a virtual arbitration course with 95
participants in 12 sessions of which 65 received
certificates - 44 men and 27 women. He
appreciated the participation of Bradbury, Rolf
and Sandy Steel as speakers.
Andre Trottier reported on the situation of
beach volleyball referees, highlighting that
there are currently 31 referees, of which 16
have FIVB category, which means that 51 percent
are international. He indicated that 11 referees
from NORCECA have been nominated to four major
FIVB events. |
