Thrilling Central
American Women's Championship
CITY OF BELIZE, Belize, August 8,
2018. - With only three matches away from the closing of the XX
Central American Senior Women's Championship taking place in
Belize, reigning Central American queens Costa Rica, champions
since 1993 with 13 consecutive titles, depend on a combination
of results to revalidate their title.
Costa Rica needs to win against
El Salvador and that Belize loses to Guatemala. Costa Rica plays
against El Salvador, who surprisingly could automatically win
their first ever Central American championship by beating Costa
Rica.
If Costa Rica and Belize beat
their opponents, it will depend on the score in sets to
determine the champion of the XX Central American Senior Women’s
Championship: Belize currently tops Costa Rica by one point,
Belize secures the title by winning to Guatemala 3- 0, or by the
same score that Costa Rica will win.
Belize has made a historical feat
by reaching the Central American podium for the first time ever
and finishing in their best position (6th place in
1997, 1999, 2014).
Guatemala could still reach the podium, by defeating Belize and
if El Salvador beats Costa Rica, but is out of the title race. |
