SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, January 16, 2016 –The 2016
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit will consist of a total record
of 18 tournaments it was announced on Saturday in the last day
of the confederation’s Beach Volleyball Commission in Santo
Domingo.
The double gender competitions will start in Guatemala in March
with the last event scheduled in Trinidad &Tobago in November.
“The number of tournaments is awesome and it shows how fast
beach volleyball is growing in the region,” said Cristobal Marte
Hoffiz, president of NORCECA.
The tournaments will be played from Friday to Sunday with the
arrival and departure days for the teams on Thursday and Monday,
respectively.
The host country will have the rights to field two teams per
gender with the main team seeded as number 1 if it is among the
top four in FIVB rankings and in fourth spot in case it is
ranked fifth or lower.
It was also decided that in order to avoid that two teams from
the same country play in the finals and the bronze medal match,
those teams will meet in the semifinal phase.
The commission, presided over by Ed Drakich, also approved a
quota proposal for the team composition of the tournaments
depending on the region of the hosting country.
The quota distribution will work as follows:
North & Central 7, AFECAVOL 3, CAZOVA 3, ECVA 3
AFECAVOL 5, North & Central 5, CAZOVA 3, ECVA 3
CAZOVA 4, North & Central 5, AFECAVOL 4, ECVA 3
