Trevor Crabb and Tri Bourne clinch Gold at Aguascalientes in tiebreaker

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 21, 2019. - Trevor Crabb and Tri Bourne of United Atates clinched the gold medal in the first stop of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Aguascalientes with a tie-break win over Mexican Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros.

It was an exciting title match as Crabb and Bourne recovered from losing the second set to the energetic hosts Virgen and Ontiveros. The stands at the venue set at the San Marcos fair were packed of supportive fans up to the end, but still the US duo kept on going while scoring the final points for the 2-1 (21-16, 14-21, 15-8) win.

For Trevor Crabb their energy was there number one thing, “talking before the match we knew playing Mexico at was going to be hard because of all the fans, so we tried to bring our own energy to each other and that was the most important thing”.

According to Tri Bourne the great runs and plays of their opponents didn’t discourage them “we trusted our game; we knew we could pull it out; this is a tough sport and at the end it’s going to be about how you respond to your errors”.

Trevor Crabb and Tri Bourne are now headed to the first AVP at Huntington Beach for the first weekend of May.

Cubans Sergio González and Luis Enrique Reyes won the bronze medal recovering from the first set down to beat Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo and Luis García 2-1 (19-21, 21-14, 15-11).
