GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, March 10, 2016. - Trinidad and Tobago
with Daneil Williams/Fabien Whitfield and Cuba with Leila
Martinez/Lianma Flores are the top seeded teams in the men’s and
women’s division, respectively, at the 2016 NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Tour season opener in Guatemala from March 11-13.
Edward Drakich, President of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball
Commission and the competition director explained during the
General Technical meeting that a new system will be used for the
NORCECA Tour, “according to the new regulations, teams will be
seeded by the players’ FIVB current ranking”.
Following the new rule, Daneil Williams and Fabien Whitfield of
Trinidad and Tobago, who captured two bronze medals in last
year’s NORCECA Tour, and the Cuban Pan American bronze medalists
Leila Martinez and Lianma Flores, are the number one seeds of
the tournament.
Another modification is that if the host country team is ranked
below fourth position, they will move up to fourth place; in
case they are amongst the top four ranked, they will be the
number one seeded.
