Trinidad and Tobago Secure First Victory

with Straight-Sets Win Over Bahamas

 

Brienvengat , Curaçao, July 19 – Trinidad and Tobago earned their first victory of the 2026 CAZOVA Men’s Final Four Championship after defeating The Bahamas in straight sets (25-19, 25-13, 31-29) in an exciting encounter at the SDK Sports Hall.

 

The opening set was a thrilling battle from the first whistle, with both teams matching each other point for point. The scores remained level for majority of the set. Trinidad and Tobago then found another gear, pulling away late to claim the set 25-19.

 

The second set belonged to Trinidad and Tobago, who quickly established control with a commanding 15-5 lead. Young middle blocker #16 Austin and outside hitter #4  Stewart were instrumental in the team’s dominant performance as Trinidad and Tobago comfortably closed out the set 25-13.

 

Determined to keep the match alive, The Bahamas came out fighting in the third set. The teams once again traded points early before Trinidad and Tobago opened a 21-17 advantage. The Bahamas refused to back down, battling back to level the score at 25-25. After several tense rallies, Trinidad and Tobago finally secured the required two-point margin, sealing the set 31-29 and completing the 3-0 victory.

 

Coach Dickson of TTO while extremely satisfied with the performance and results of his team, he reflected on their entire tournament performance and encouraged his team to stay focus and maintain this level of intensity and consistency in the the bronze medal match against the same team.

 

Coach Stapleton of BAH explained that he is also satisfied with his team’s performance as it was an improvement from the previous matches.

 

He continued “Now the plan is to capitalize on what we did coming to then end of this match, as we now understand TTO playing style, make the necessary adjustments and finish this tournament strong.”

 

Despite the result, both teams showed resilience and determination throughout the contest. They will meet once again in the tournament’s third-place playoff, where another hard-fought battle is expected.
