Trinidad and Tobago closes with a victory and in sixth place

 

   

CORDOBA, Mexico, October 10, 2015 - Trinidad and Tobago closed with a victory at the Norceca Men’s Continental Championship and won the sixth place after defeating Costa Rica 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-23).

 

Ryan Stewart recorded 14 points while Marc Honore closed with 12 and Simon Blake with 10 for the Trinidadian team that worked hard on the blocking game against Costa Rica, whose best player was Julio Álvarez with 11 points, while Richard Smith Hall closed with 9, including 3 aces.

 

Trinidad and Tobago surpassed Costa Rica in blocks 12-2, while Costa Rica tried to work more with their services to finish 5-4. “This is a very important victory to us. We closed off the tournament on a winning note. We are pretty happy about the victory. We did a great job today in all the aspects, reception, attacking, blocking and we were everybody focused and are happy for this victory,” said Ryan Stewart, captain of Trinidad and Tobago.

 

Trinidadian coach Gideon Dickson dedicated this victory to the fans in Cordoba.

 

“Congratulations to Costa Rica. Today my guys were hungrier to win and we took the time off the court to prepare for this game. and this tournament helped us to prepare of the world championship qualifiers of 2018, starting next year,” Dickson expressed.

 

“It took us a lot to get a win but we were well supported by the people of Cordoba, I wanna thank them for all their support. This victory means a lot to us. Thanks very much,”

 

César Salas, coach of Costa Rica stated: “I think that today my team did not recovered from yesterday’s match more in the mood  and also the physical aspect. We did adjustements but it didn’t work. Trinidad and Tobago played agressively we have take note of the mistakes and things we have to correct after participating at this tournament, I appreciate the efforts and the job done by the organization.”

 

“You cannot give advantage to your rivals in short tournaments. We have played consecutive matches and they had one day of rest, so the mental and the physical aspects took its toll on us and it damaged us,” Javier Alvarez, captain of Costa Rica remarked.
