Trinidad and Tobago defeat Honduras for seventh place
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, June 28, 2014 - Trinidad and Tobago
defeated Honduras 25-23, 26-24, 25-15 to finish in seventh place
at the Girls’ U-18 NORCECA Continental Championship at Gimnasio
Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Caribbean team, who concluded pool play as the highest
ranked third place, earned their first victory to finish with a
1-2 win-loss record while the Central American had a 1-3 mark.
Trinidad and Tobago were the superior team despite their
disadvantage in errors of 36-27. They were better in spikes by
32-17, in the blocking category by 10-4 and in services points
by 7-5.
For Trinidad and Tobago, Captain Reann Young scored a
tournament-high 19 points, with 16 kills and 2 service points;
also with double digits, Kaylon Cruickshank with 16 points and
Destiny Leon with 10 points.
Coach Macsood Ali of Trinidad and Tobago said “we knew Honduras
plays similar as Guatemala and Costa Rica who we faced in the
pool play round so we worked in making adjustments in our first
passing and defense. It was a good match for the girls and
Honduras performed well”.
Coach Catarina Lizeth of Honduras said they paid the
consequences of their own mistakes “my girls lacked
concentration, their defense was poor, the second set slipped
out of our hands and it’s not the result I expected.” |
