Trinidad and Tobago sweep Mexico 3-0
CALLAO, Peru, June 15, 2013 - Trinidad and Tobago swept past
Mexico 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 in the classification
round for places 9th to 12 at the Women’s Movistar Pan Am Cup on
Saturday at Miguel Grau Coliseum.
Channon Thompson had a total of 21 points while Kristle Esdelle
recorded 18. Darlene Radmin finished with 12 and Sinead Jack
with 10. For Mexico Samantha Bricio scored 15 points and
Alejandra Isiordia 10.
“We fell in an excess of confidence. We didn’t play as we know.
We lost because we were out of focus and we didn’t played our
game, we fell into their game,” said Isiordia.
“We lost a match that really was an opportunity to train and
prepare for the World Championship. They are very strong in
block and attack, but limited in other fundamentals, we did not
get the best of that. I am very concerned about the lack of
respect and desire to play when you wear the jersey of your
country, and today we had no respect for the jersey of Mexico”,
stated Estanislao Matias Vachino about the result against
Trinidad and Tobago.
“We had to fight on the net and since the beginning we said to
ourselves we couldn’t afford to lose a match against Mexico, we
had our chances and did our best,” said Esdelle.
“We worked hard on that. We had won against them the last time
we played in Mexico (at the 2012 Pan Am Cup in Ciudad Juarez)
and we prepared according to our system, focusing on the net and
to avoid losing on the strong fundaments of Mexico like pass and
defense”, Francisco “Panchi” Cruz mentioned.
Mexico will play for the 11th place while Trinidad and Tobago
will do so for 9th place on Sunday. |
