Trinidad and Tobago women stays perfect after holding off Bahamas

PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 25, 2023.- Trinidad and Tobago stay after three games played perfect in the 18th Senior Caribbean Championships. In a five set they came thriller 3-2 (17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12) victorious against the Bahamas at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall in Paramaribo. With the win Trinidad and Tobago are top of the group standing and aiming to stay there.

Trinidad and Tobago were shorthanded coming into this game. Their main setter Johanna Belmar is injured and tried to improvised. Bahamas noticed that and came on top in the first set. The Soca Girls came back strong in the second and third set. But the Bajans forced a fifth set by winning the fourth set. Trinidad and Tobago committed 30 unforced errors and Bahamas 48.

Outside hitter Malika Davidson led with 17 points, joined by opposite Krystle Esdelle and middle blocker Jalica Ross-Kydd with 11 and 10 points respectively. For Bahamas opposite Janelle Curtis led the team with 20 points including 5 block and 3 spikes. Outside hitter Brittany Bonamy contributed with 12 points.  

Kaylon Cruickshank, captain of Trinidad and Tobago: “Coming into this game we know it will be very challenging, because our main setter is injured. We had to play with a good plan like make the right pass and score some points. We are delighted that this game went our way.”
