MONTREUX, Switzerland, May 31, 2015 – Two sets down, Turkey
overpowered Japan to claim the gold medal of the 30th edition of
the 2015 Montreux Volley Masters.
In a spectacular 139-minute battle, the team of head coach
Ferhat Akbas proved too strong for their Asian opponents (22-25,
19-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-10).
It is Turkey’s first triumph in Montreux after their sixth place
in 2007. In the battle for bronze, the Netherlands outclassed
Russia in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-21).
Turkey displayed a better offense (59-46 successful spikes) and
had the edge in blocking (21-6). Best scorers of the
breath-taking gold medal clash were Polen Uslupehlivan (26) for
the young Turks and Saori Kimura (15 points) for Japan.
With a straight-set win (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) win in the small
final the Netherlands make 3th place at the 30th Edition of the
Montreux Volley Masters 2015. Russia ends their tournament with
rank four.
Best scorer for Holland was Lonneke Slöetjes (16 points), who
showed a huge game.
Anastasia Bavykina was the best Russian scorer with 13 points. |
