Turkey sweeps USA in Volleyball Nations League
JIANGMEN, China, June 11 2019 – In the battle between last
year’s finalists, Turkey beat defending champions United States
in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 27-25) to open the fourth
round of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League on Tuesday.
Turkey dominated United States in all the scoring categories –
47-37 in attacks, 9-5 in blocks and 7-1 in aces. Both teams made
14 errors.
Turkey improved to a 9-1 record and 27 points as th-3e leader of
the standings while the United States have now a 7-3 mark with
21 points.
Ebrar Karakurt had 20 points as the leading offensive player of
Turkey, followed by Fatma Yildirim, Meliha Ismailoglu and Zehra
Gunes with 12, 10 and 9 points, respectively.
Jordan Thompson only started in the third set but still led
United States with 10 points, followed by Kelsey Robinson with
