Twenty-five NORCECA teams to World FIVB Beach Volleyball Championships

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 7, 2017 – Twenty-five teams from NORCECA Confederation –13 men’s and 12 women’s– have been announced to participate in the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships to take place in Vienna on Danube Island from July 28 to August 6.

The FIVB certified teams from 19 countries via the confederation qualifying process to join the 21 countries determined via host country and FIVB World Tour entry points. The final three berths via wild card per gender will be announced before the end of the week.

The 48 teams will be vying for $1-million in total prize purse.

“It speaks very high about the kind of development our teams have achieved via the NORCECA Circuit,” said Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation. “Our circuit has been a launching pad for many teams currently achieving success at world level and our tournaments are the laboratory to fine tune the natural conditions of our athletes.”

The men’s teams qualified through NORCECA are the following:

Canada (Aaron Nusbaum/Ryan Vandenburg), Guatemala (Leonardo Blanco/Luis Garcia Betancourt) Trinidad & Tobago (Daneil Williams/Kareem Thomas) and Cuba (Daisel Quesada/Karell Pina).

The men’s teams qualified via FIVB are:

Canada (Pedlow/Schachter), Canada (Saxton/Schalk), Canada (Plantinga/O’Gorman), Cuba (Gonzalez/Nivaldo), Mexico (Virgen/Ontiveros), United States (Dalhausser/Lucena), United States (Gibb/Ta. Crabb), United States (Brunner/Patterson), United States (Rosenthal/Tre. Crabb).

The women’s teams qualified through NORCECA are the following:

Canada (Julie Gordon/Camille Saxton), Costa Rica (Natalia Alfaro/Karen Cope Charles), Cuba (Lidiannis Echeverria/Leila Martinez) and United States (Nicole Branagh/Kerri Walsh Jennings)

The women’s teams qualified via FIVB are:

Canada (Pavan/Humana-Paredes), Canada (Pischke/Broder), Canada (Wilkerson/Bansley), United States (Hochevar/Day), United States (Hughes/Claes), United States (Summer/Sweat), United States (Ross/Fendrick), United States (Stockman/Dicello).
