LA PAZ, Baja California Sur, May 13, 2022 –
Americans Kaytlin Malaney and Carly Kan advanced
to the quarterfinals of the La Paz Beach
Volleyball Tournament after winning their two
matches in four-team Pool D on Friday.
Malaney/Kan defeated Guatemala’s Natalia Giron
and Paola Alvarado 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) before
crushing Taylor Buckner and Cristina Almeida of
U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-9, 21-9).
Also in Pool D, Giron/Alvarado and
Buckner/Almeida scored victories over Costa
Rica’s Angel Williams and Ximena Nuñez by almost
identical scores. Buckner/Almeida won 2-0
(21-16, 21-18) and Giron/Alvarado 2-0 (21-15,
21-18).
In Pool A, Mexico’s Atenas Gutierrez and María
Quintero overcame Canada’s Anna Feore and Anna
Licht 2-1 (19-21, 21-14, 15-9) to claim top
place. Earlier on Friday Feore/Licht defeated El
Salvador’s Yvonne Soler and Laura Molina 2-0
(21-16, 21-17).
In Pool B, the American duo of Megan Gebhard and
Savannah Simo scored victories over Canada’s
Maud Chapleau and Shanice Marcelle 2-0 (21-16,
21-15) and Mexico’s Abril Flores and Esperanza
Albarran 2-0 (21-15, 21-19).
In Pool C, Puerto Rico’s Maria Gonzalez and
Allanis Navas defeated Mexico’s Maria Ibarra and
Alejandra Villavicencio 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).
Earlier on Friday, Ibarra/Villavicencio had
scored a 2-0 (25-23, 21-14) over Jamaica’s
Chauna Kelly and Petal Smith. |
