TOKYO, Japan, July 31, 2021 – The USA pairs of
Jake Gibb and Tri Bourne and Nick Lucena and
Phil Dalhausser advanced to the main draw of the
men’s beach volleyball tournament of the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games with a 2-1 records.
After claiming victories over Italy’s Adrian
Carambula and Enrico Rossi 21-18, 21-19 and
against Switzerland’s Adrian Heidrich and Mirco
Gerson 21-19, 23-21 in Pool C, Gibb and Bourne
lost to Cherif Yonousse and Ahmed Tijan 21-18,
21-17.
Lucena and Dalhausser opened with a loss to
Netherlands’s Alexander Brouwer and Robert
Meeuwsen 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) before claiming a
2-1 (24-22, 10-21, 15-13) victory against
Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Alvaro Morais Filho.
Lucena/Dalhausser then closed Pool D with a 2-1
(21-19, 18-21, 15-6) against Argentina’s Julian
Azaad and Nicolas Capogrosso.
Mexico’s Jose Gaxiola and Josue Rubio advanced
with a 1-2 record in Pool B.
After losing tough battles to Russia’s
Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovskiy 2-1
(24-26, 21-15, 18-16) and to Czech Republic’s
Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner 2-1 (17-21,
21-16, 16-14), the Mexicans finally won 2-0
(21-18, 21-16) over Latvia’s Martins Plavins and
Edgars Tocs. |
