U21 women's tournament looks very even
PUERTO CORTÉS, Honduras, November 1, 2018 - Ten couples hailing
from five countries will battle for the women's title of the XI
Central American U21 Beach Volleyball Championship that takes
place in Puerto Cortés, Honduras, from October 31 to November 4.
Defending monarchs, the Nicaraguans Lourdes Lugo / Anielka
Alonso (NCA 1) are located in group A, where they will have
tough rivals in Guatemala and El Salvador, while their teammates
Maria Fernanda Chamorro / Fernanda Romero (NCA2) are in group B.
Sisters Irena and Lucía Gómez (CRC 1), along with Larissa
Villegas / Ana Paula Fallas (CRC2) represent Costa Rica, who
last year playing in Puerto Jiménez, won the silver and bronze
medals.
Maria Fernanda Juarez / Paola Alvarado (GUA 1) and Martha
Guillermo / Kimberly Cardona (GUA 2) have the mission of
returning Guatemala to the podium, since last year Juarez /
Alvarado were in fifth place.
The home girls Cecille Johnson / Shanna Rivera (HON 1) and Xue
Murillo / Shantte Siliezar (HON 2), will try to improve the
fourth place occupied in the previous edition.
Meanwhile, the Salvadorans Gabriela Funes / Sofía Velásquez (ESA
1) and Alejandra Mariona / Dana Funes try to improve their last
position in Puerto Jiménez.
The tournament is played in two groups of five couples, ranking
the first two to the semifinal to be played 1A vs 2B, 1B-2A, and
the winners advance to the final. |
