BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 7, 2015 - A game high 15 points
made up of 12 kills from Marvin Cancan was not enough for
Guadeloupe to win a set against the United States Virgin Islands
on day one of the 10th CAZOVA Junior championships being
contested at the Wildey Gymnasium, Barbados.
In a game of fluctuating fortunes USVI led by the attack of JB
Brodie who cracked 13 kills took the tough encounter 26-24,
27-25, 25-22. Both teams were almost matched in every facet of
the game with a 10 points difference of 37 kills and 25 digs
tipping the balance in favour of the Virgin Islands.
Guadeloupe proved superior in reception with 32 excellent passes
bettering the 25 from USVI. However, Guadeloupe committed too
many unforced errors at critical junctures which allowed USVI to
squeeze out the victory.
Coach of USVI Melissa Schjang-Simmonds was pleased with the
performance of her boys. "This was the first game and we value
that we were tested since it gave us a chance to get the feel of
the venue and the opposition to score the win that we were
expecting," said Schjang-Simmonds.
Although Brousillon Gayetann was disappointed in not winning a
set to take the match beyond three sets he was pleased with the
effort of his boys. "This was our first game and we certainly
played well to win one or two sets. Even so we are better
prepared as the nerves would have disappeared and our boys
should do even better in the remaining games," said Gayetann. |
