USA Wins, Dominican Republic Falls to Bulgaria
Friday, June 5, 2026-. The United States had to work hard to
defeat France in Pool 1 of the Women’s VNL being held in Quebec,
Canada, while the Dominican Republic was unable to overcome
Bulgaria in Pool 2, taking place in Brasília, Brazil.
USA Had to Fight Hard to Defeat France
In a thrilling match, the United States had to battle until the
very end to defeat a resilient France team 3-2 (25-21, 23-25,
27-25, 23-25, 15-11) in Pool 1 of the first week of the Women’s
VNL in Quebec City, Canada.
Another outstanding performance came from Simone Lee, who
contributed 24 points to help lead the Americans to victory.
Joining Lee in the offensive effort were Stephanie Samedy with
20 points and Madison Kubik with 16.
The victory improved the United States’ record to two wins and
one loss, moving them up to sixth place in the overall standings.
In team statistics, the United States and France were tied in
attacks with 66 each. The Europeans led in blocks (10-8) and
aces (7-4), but the Americans took advantage of France’s 35
unforced errors to secure the win.
The United States will have a rest day on Saturday, June 6.
Dominican Republic Falls to Bulgaria
The Dominican Republic could not overcome Bulgaria and lost 0-3
(19-25, 19-25, 13-25), further complicating its record in Pool 2
during the first week of the Women’s VNL in Brasília, Brazil.
With the result, the Dominicans drop to 18th place in the
overall standings with a record of three losses and no victories.
Altagracia Alonzo once again shined offensively for the
Dominican Republic, becoming the only player on her team to
reach double figures with 12 points, including two blocks and
one ace.
In team statistics, Bulgaria dominated in attacks (49-25) and
blocks (10-9), while both teams recorded one ace. It was a match
with few unforced errors, as the Europeans committed 16 and the
Caribbean side 15.
The Dominican Republic will also have a rest day on Saturday,
June 6.
