TOKYO, Japan, August 4, 2021 – USA defeated
Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-19) in
the quarterfinals of the women’s volleyball
tournament of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on
Wednesday.
Andrea Drews punished her opponents with 21
points as the top scorer for United States,
followed by Michelle Bartsch-Hackley and Haleigh
Washington with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Brayelin Martinez led the Dominican side with 16
points, followed by Prisilla Rivera (7) and
Jineiry Martínez (6).
USA held the advantage in blocks (8-5) and
attacks (48-32) and blanked their rivals in aces
(6-0). Each team committed 13 unforced errors.
In other quarterfinals action on Wednesday,
South Korea edged Turkey 3-2 (17-25, 25-17,
28-26, 18-25, 15-13), Serbia defeated Italy 3-0
(25-21, 25-14, 25-21) and Brazil recovered to
defeat Russia 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22). |
