USA advance to semis with epic victory
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 4, 2016 - The definition
of Pool B in the U-18 Continental Championship turned into an
epic battle between the two major powerhouses in the region.
United States defeated Dominican Republic 3-2 (25-23, 14-25,
23-25, 25-23, and 16-14) to advance to the semifinals to be
played on Tuesday.
Erin Virtue, USA coach commented: "It was a great match between
two great teams. Dominican Republic played a great game and I
think we can meet them again in the tournament".
Alexandre Ceccato, head coach of Dominican Republic said: "A
strong game, they (USA) had a better service, also received
better than my team. Now we have to concentrate on Costa Rica in
the quarterfinals".
Haley Warner led USA with 17 points, while Natalia Martinez of
the Dominican Republic had a tournament-high 33 points. |
