USA among the final four at FIVB U18
ISMAILIA, Egypt, September 12, 2019 – Team USA recovered to
beat Japan 3-1 (17-25, 25-13 25-19, 25-20) advancing to a
semifinal match against Brazil at the FIVB U18 Girls’ World
Championship.
In a match for the 9-16 positions, Argentina defeated Puerto
Rico 3-1 (25-10, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15), despite a 21-point
performance, including five aces, by Puerto Rican Sofia
Victoria.
Also, Canada lost to Bulgaria 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-16,
25-23).
Puerto Rico and Canada will play now in the qualification
for the 13-16 positions. Puerto Rico will meet Korea and
Canada will go against the loser of the match between Egypt
and Thailand.
In the playoff for the 17-20 positions, Mexico fell to 1-1
after losing a 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-23) hard fought
battle to Belarus (2-0). Mexico’s Melanie Parra led all the
scorers in the match with 28 points.
