USA and Cuba open with victories at U19
TUNIS, Tunisia, August 21, 2019 – The United States defeated
the Dominican Republic in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 31-29,
25-17) in day one of actions in Pool D of the U19 FIVB Boys’
Volleyball World Championship.
Alexander Knight led the United States with 13 points all in
attacks while Etchan chipped in with 9 points, including two
blocks and 7 kills from 10 attempts. Fuhit Edouarde had 9
points for the losers.
In Pool A, Cuba outclassed host Tunisia 3-0 (25-22, 25-14,
25-18). The winners held advantages of 10-5 and 11-5 in
blocks and serves, respectively. José Miguel Gutierrez had
10 points as the top Cuban scorer.
In Pool C, Argentina defeated Mexico 3-1 (25-21, 17-25,
25-14, 25-20). Rodrigo Soria and Tomas Capogrosso led the
South American side with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Luis Hernández and Franky Hernández were the main scorers
for Mexico with 17 and 16.
