SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 16,
2022 – United States and Mexico claimed
semifinals tickets for the women’s semifinal of
the Santo Domingo Qualifier to the FIVB Beach
Volleyball Championship on Saturday.
The USA tandem of Corinne Quiggley and Sarah
Schermerhorn overcame a back injury of the
latter and went on to defeat Costa Rica’s Angel
Williams and Ximena Nuñez 2-1 (21-17, 11-21,
15-11) victory in 45 minutes in Pool A.
Quiggley and Schemerhorn bounced back with
renovated energy to beat Guatemala’s Natalia
Girón and Estefanie Bethancourt of Guatemala 2-0
(21-8, 21-14) in just 23 minutes.
In Pool B, Mexico’s Atenas Gutierrez and María
Quintero downed Jamaica’s Petal Smith and Chauna
Kelly 2-0 (21-9, 21-18) in just 28 minutes and
then beat Yvonne Soler and Laura Molina of El
Salvador 2-0 (21-17, 21-10)
Giron/Bethancourt defeated Williams/Nuñez 2-0
(21-16, 21-19) while earlier on Saturday Soler
and Molina prevailed against Smith/Kelly 2-1
(21-15, 16-21, 15-9) in 47 minutes.
In Saturday’s quarterfinals, Soler/Molina will
meet Williams/Nuñez while Girón/Bethancourt will
face Smith/Kelly. |
