USA are champions for seventh time at Pan American Cup
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 14, 2019 - With a record of six consecutive
victories, the United States team was the champion of the 18th
Women's Pan American Cup after beating the Dominican Republic
3-0 (25-16, 25- 21, 29-27).
The great final of the Pan-American race was lived in the Gran
Chimú Coliseum in Trujillo, where the volleyball fans enjoyed an
intense duel that had as top scorers for the winning team
Kingdon Rishel, Karsta Lowe and Hannah Tapp with 18, 16 and 12
points respectively.
Despite the efforts of the Dominican Republic's top scorers,
Gaila Gonzalez (11) and Brayelin Martinez (10), the United
States was relentless in all the lines: attack (42-34), block
(10-5) and serve (7-3). Both teams made almost the same total of
mistakes, 20 for the Dominicans and 22 for the Americans.
United States coach, Robert Browning: I think the team knows how
to stay calm on the court, if something goes wrong they know how
to continue and move forward without much drama. Dominicans
today did not play their best game, but we already knew this
team and we took advantage of that from the first set.
Captain of the United States, Micha Hancock: I am very proud of
my team, we have very young athletes but they all had a great
tournament. Dominicana is always a good opponent, but they were
not at their best today. I think the third set was more similar
to the level they play, but we worked harder and we could win.
Dominican Republic coach, Marcos Kwiek: When we pressed with the
service the game became more even, but they already had a great
advantage and in the end we almost managed to overcome, the
story could be different but this game does not forgive
mistakes.
Captain of the Dominican Republic, Prisilla Rivera: We lacked
consistency, they played very calmly. In the third set we could
push, but we made small mistakes that did not allow us to win
the set or the match. |
