USA book ticket to semifinals of Pan Am Cup
PACHUCA, Mexico, June 14, 2014 – United States brushed aside
Costa Rica in straight sets (25-13, 25-9, 25-11) to conclude
undefeated in Pool B and booking a direct ticket to the
semifinals of the XIII Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The Costa Ricans couldn’t do many things against the Americans,
whose opposite resulted in the best scorer of the match with 17
points followed by Chloe Ferrari, who charted nine. Paola
Ramirez had seven points for Costa Rica.
It was the fourth victory in a row for the USA team that won
also in straight sets over Colombia, Argentina and Puerto Rico
and now they move to the Mexican capital to play the medal
contenders and to decide the top six places.
Jamie Morrison, Coach of United States: “With this being our
last game in Pachuca we want to express our appreciation for the
hospitality. In this part of the tournament I thinj we have been
improving situations and achieving our goals.”
Carli Lloyd, the USA Captain commented “we are proud with the
way we have played as we intend to improve even more in some
aspects as we have been doing. Our compliments to Costa Rica for
the effort they did today.”
Horacio Bastit, Coach of Costa Rica: “It is always a pleasure
play against USA. They play with intensity and seriousness. They
represent an example. Maybe they are not the best technically
but tactically they adjust at the end of the game to get the
result. We couldn’t accomplish our goals of reaching at least
half of the points.”
Mijail Hines, Player of Costa Rica: “We played against an
opponent with experience and velocity as United States, even
more with our team missing two players which was showed in the
final score.” |
