USA claim cruising victory over TTO
KOBE, Japan, September 30, 2018 - World champions USA cruised to
a second straight victory in Pool C on Sunday by beating
Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 in a one-sided contest.
The Americans followed up their
tough victory over Azerbaijan the previous day with a routine
25-11, 25-12, 25-11 success to improve their win-loss record to
2-0 and drop T&T to 0-2.
Michelle Bartsch-Hackley led the USA with 15 points, with three
blocks and two aces, and middle blocker Tetori Dixon added 13,
including four blocks and five service aces. Channon Thompson
top-scored with eight for T&T.
In Sapporo, Paola Egonu was the top scorer again as Italy
outplayed Canada 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18).
Despite Italy coach Davide Mazzanti saying that she hadn’t
reached peak performance yet, Egonu still had an impressive
game, thundering down 18 points. She was supported by Lucia
Bosetti with 14 points and Anna Danesi with 12, including four
excellent blocks. Alexa Gray showed great power to lead Canada
with 14 points. |
