USA continues its winning streak at the U21 Pan Am Cup

2025 NORCECA U21 Men’s Pan American Cup at the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex &
Chief Jim Starlight Centre near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Today, USA beat Mexico 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 26-24)
A determined Mexico put the pressure on in the third set, leading by
up to five points for much of the set. However, USA came back to
even it up at 24 points and then completed the sweep.
The United States led in attack points (50-32) and blocks (8-4), but
Mexico had one more ace than its opponent (3-2). USA made more
errors (21-16).
USA’s head coach John Hawks commented post-match: “I think it’s fun
to get into these environments and see what emotions come out of
matches like this and what sort of stresses come out from these
things. For us, it’s an opportunity to go into the video room, watch
the game and clean stuff up. But you can’t simulate that level of
stress in the practice gym…. I’m happy we pulled it off - it was not
clean volleyball all round.”
U.S. outside hitter Marek Turner led all scoring with 21 points (20
kills and a block).
Carlos Grajeda scored 10 attack points for Mexico as their top
scorer.
On Saturday, USA plays Puerto Rico and Mexico faces host Canada.
