SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican
Republic, September 3, 2021 – United States beat
Mexico in straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 29-27,
25-20) in the second match of the opening day at
the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Ricardo
Arias Pavilion in Santo Domingo.
The Americans came back from a
21-14 deficit in the second set and then
resisted at 24-18 before tying the score and
pocketing the set.
Shane Holdaway and Francesco Sani
each scored three blocks and finished with 12
and 11 points, respectively. Josue Lopez had 10
points for Mexico followed by Diego González
with 8.
Jorge Azair, Coach of Mexico: “We
had bad game. We could put together our side
out. Definitely we could not attack. We need to
forget about this one. It’s a long competition
and I know my team play better than they showed
today.”

States: “I am very proud of my boys. We had a
good first set and we were able to climb back to
take the second and the match. My boys showed we
are a strong team, also mentally. |
