TOKYO, Japan, August 2, 2021 – United States
edged Italy 3-2 (21-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16,
15-12) in the match for top place in Pool B of
the women’s volleyball tournament of the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games.
The Americans finished with a 4-1 record and
will play Dominican Republic in their
quarterfinal contest.
Andrea Drews led the attack of United States
with 22 points, but it was Italian Paola Egonu
who took the honors as best scorer of the match
with 28 points.
The Americans led 13-10 in blocks with Foluke
Akinradewo and Haleigh Washington scoring four
apiece and Drews contributing with three of her
own.
